NOUVELLE PHILHARMONIE NEWSLETTER #3 2017/18

Dear friends,

It is time we shared a brief summary of what we’ve done in 2017 and a few updates on the upcoming season.

Our concert season of 2017 started end of January with the third edition of MicroFest chamber series in Paris, two concerts in total. We played pieces by Pärt, Glass, Karmanov, Brahms, Schumann and Nikolai Kapustin, whose music we’ve never played before. Our special guest, painter Michel Costiou, enhanced one of the two performances with a live painting projection.

Then, together with our longtime friend Andrei Malakhov (who plays viola) we went on a short tour as a quartet to Belarus (Minsk and Baranovichi) and for the very first time to Ukraine (Kiev) - there we played Brahms and Schumann at the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

May of 2017 was all about performing the Seasons (those by Tchaikovsky and Astor Piazzolla) in the Netherlands. We played at three different locations - the beautiful Sint Janskerk in Gouda, Fenix Music Factory in Rotterdam and Theater Koningsduyn in Castricum.

Speaking of Seasons, you can now purchase our CD (with works by Tchaikovsky and Karmanov) HERE. And you can also read a review of our album by Olga de Kort, published recently in the MUZE Pianowereld Magazine (it's in Dutch).

China became our second brand-new touring destination and turned out to be a real adventure.  Five big cities, five amazing state of the art concert halls (especially the stunning New Opera building in Jinan designed by world-famous French architect Paul Andreu), and a great audience who came to see us!

In August we visited  Minsk  again, this time with two very different open-air performances: first one taking place on the fantastic VondelRoof, where we played Max Richter’s Vivaldi Recomposed for the very first time. You can read about it here .

And here are the photos. And a video of us performing as well.

Second performance was held on the open stage in the historical centre of Minsk within the Classical music by the City Hall festival, where we played The Seasons by Piazzolla and Tchaikovsky. A whole lot of people (more than 10 thousands!) came to listen to us that evening. It’s best you take a look for yourself.

….and again! In December we had a highly concentrated three days/three cities tour: Minsk, Baranovichi and Gomel. This time our program was quite contemporary and consisted of music by Pavel Karmanov, Philip Glass and Arvo Pärt. Should we mention that tickets to our Minsk Philharmonic concert were completely sold out? What a great way to end the season!

As for season-2018, Sergey was the one to give it a bright start.

In February he played a Glass and Bach program in Leeuwarden (the European Capital of Culture 2018, btw). You can read a review of Sergey’s performance HERE. And yes, the tickets were completely sold out as well.

Our new season of year 2018 continues with two upcoming concerts: in Santpoort-Noord at ’t Mosterdzaadje on March 30th and in Paris at  Rue de Rivoli 59 art space (the place is absolutely mind-blowing!) on March 31st.

This time our whole program is dedicated to music by Max Richter (and Vivaldi, of course, whose music he re-composed)

Looking forward to seeing you at our concerts!
